The Best Ski Resorts for Families in 2022

Posted by: Brandon Fryer 2 years, 10 months ago

Deciding the right resort for your family ski holiday is the most important factor in ensuring you have a fantastic trip. Some of the key things to consider when choosing your resort, include: the resort transfer time, whether there are child friendly ski areas and play areas, child-friendly ski school availability, as well as what there is to do off the slopes.

La Rosiere, France

The peaceful La Rosiere resort is situated high in the Tarentaise and perfect for families looking to enjoy a ski holiday this year. The resort features several conveniently located slopeside accommodation, so the journey to and from the slopes are short and easy to do with young children.

The skiing itself is careered more towards beginners and intermediates, with fantastic quality of childcare and ski schools. Despite the high altitude, La Rosiere makes for a more enjoyable ski holiday as it benefits from a warm and sunny south-facing position. Along with the beautiful surroundings, this is the perfect place for families to have a relaxed and memorable ski holiday.

Avoriaz, France

A ski holiday in Avoriaz not only gives you and your family access to 650km of piste, but the stunning panoramic views of the Portes Du Soleil ski area. The quick transfer time of 90 minutes from Geneva airport will also benefit families travelling with younger children.

The resort is small and family-friendly, the perfect destination to learn how to ski. The ski school is run by the internationally renowned Ecole du Ski Francais (ESF), where your children can learn the basics of skiing and snowboarding. The ESF are brilliant at keeping young children entertained and safe.

The village was purpose-built, which means no door is more than 50m away from the centre, giving great accessibility to families that don’t want to travel far. There are also other family activities besides skiing, such as the Aquariaz indoor swimming pool with water slides, saunas, and whirlpools.

Saas-Fee, Switzerland

The picture-perfect Alpine ski resort of Saas-Fee, in Switzerland, has been crowned ‘the Pearl of the Alps’ and is guaranteed to charm the whole family. The traditional village is completely traffic-free, making it safe for you and your children to wander the streets and explore.

The centre of the village features a large nursery slope with gentle green and blue slopes that are ideal for children and adults learning to ski for the first time. Having this small and accessible area means parents can very easily return to the village to pick their kids up from the ski school. There are affordable packages available that include lessons, lunch, and afternoon play time. In the evenings, there is a quiet après ski scene which means children will enjoy an undisturbed sleep and parents can get a restful night to themselves.

Obergurgl, Austria

Austria’s Obergurgl is a family favourite when it comes to ski holidays, thanks to its laid-back atmosphere, excellent ski schools and slope-side accommodation. For young children that are new to skiing, there is a ‘bobo’ club that gives them a safe yet fun introduction to the slopes. There is also a Kindergarten that offers a secure environment as young as 2 who are not skiing, giving parents some time away to explore the mountain.

Obergurgl has fantastic snow records which means your family are likely to enjoy the excellent conditions throughout the entire season. There is plenty to do outside of the core skiing activities, such as the weekly ‘Skivolution’ event that features mind-blowing tricks from the instructors alongside music and fireworks.
