Location:
Access to the lifts can be either by walking straight from the front door down to the slopes in less than 2 minutes or via the free and very frequent shuttle buses that run to the middle of Val d’Isère if you want to directly get to another part of the Espace Killy.
Val d’Isère needs little or no introduction to seasoned ski and snowboard enthusiasts. The resort is located at the head of the Isere Valley at 1860 metres and enjoys exceptional snow conditions and challenging skiing conditions all serviced by a world-class lift system that whisks you to the top of the mountain. Queues are so rare as to be a talking point if they do happen and this is one of the best places in the world to engage a guide and get in some serious off-piste action. Beginners are not left out with plenty of free lifts on the nursery slopes in Val d’Isère, the top of the Solaise bowl and the runs down from the Col de l’Iseran offering more relaxed cruising. Chalet Amelie is located right opposite the Fornet cable car which takes you straight up towards the Grand Vallon and Pissaillais Glaciers or you can take the frequent and free shuttle bus towards Val d’Isère and get the Olympique or Solaise Express lifts up from there.
Eating out is a great Val d’Isère experience. For those wanting five-star dining the Michelin Star Table de l’Ours or the Hotel Christiana are great options. More modest budgets are well taken care of with excellent restaurants such as the 1789 for open-fire cooked steaks, the Fondue Factory for local cuisine, Victor’s for nouvelle cuisine, or the many pizza and local produce restaurants dotted around the village. You won’t be stuck for choice… In addition there are several excellent boulangeries that also make sandwiches and pastries to take away.
Nightlife is famous in Val d’Isère. The Folie Douce is known as the ‘Ibiza of the Alps’ with pumping dance music and partying every day on the slopes from around 3pm (if that’s your thing) until the lifts close. After this finishes you are then spoilt for choice with well-known venues such as the Saloon, Dick’s Tea Bar, Morris Pub, Victor’s, Bananas and dozens of other places.
