El Tarter is in the middle of the Pyrenees mountains. It has a resort height of 1710m and it is part of the Grandvalira ski area, with 205km of piste to explore. Within the Grandvalira El Tarter is linked up with other ski resorts, namely Soldeu, Pas de la Casa, Canillo and Grau Roig. It is a ski area that offers skiing for all abilities but is particularly suited for intermediate / upper-intermediate skiers.
Beginner Skiing in El Tarter ****
El Tarter has an award-winning English speaking ski school and many multi-lingual instructors so it is great for British holidaymakers wanting to learn to ski. The main area for beginners in El Tarter is called Riba Escorada but once you have grasped the basics there are plenty of more challenging slopes to move on too. El Tarter is particularly good value for beginner skiers as you can often book a heavily reduced rice lift pass, for those who have never skied before, if you also book ski rentals and lessons.
Intermediate Skiing In El Tarter *****
The skiing in El Tarter and the Grandvalira as a whole is perfect for intermediate skiers. 205km of piste is more than enough to keep you happy and there are 38 blue and 32 red runs to practice your skills on. The Grandvalira really is an intermediate skiers paradise.
Expert Skiing In El Tarter***
With 22 black runs spread throughout the region, there is plenty of challenging skiing to keep even the most experienced skier going for a week's holidays. There is also a whole host of off-piste skiing to be discovered for those who do not want to just stick to the marked out route. They also offer Cat skiing where you can take out the mountain by a Snow Cat to give you access to powder fields that would otherwise be inaccessible with a huge hike!
Snowboarding in El Tarter ****
The Grandvalira and El Tarter is great for snowboarders with some lovely tracks through the trees to be found along with natural jumps and bumps to practice jibs on. The area has a well looked after snow park with kickers and rails as well as a half pipe.
