The SkiWelt is Austria’s largest interconnected ski area, with 280km of pistes serviced by 90 modern ski lifts and cable cars. The SkiWelt ski area includes 9 great resorts Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Itter, Kelchsau, Scheffau, Soll and Westendorf.

The SkiWelt Ski Area

The vast SkiWelt ski area is perfectly suited for intermediates, thanks to its large number of wide-open blue and red runs. It is possible for skiers of all levels to enjoy a ski safari from one village to another. One of most popular ski safaris is the “Hole Salve tour”- this is a circular tour around the highest peak in the SkiWelt, providing a stunning 360-degree view of the Kaiser Mountains and Austria’s highest mountain the Grossglockner (3,798m).

Which resort shall I choose in the SkiWelt?

In the SkiWelt there are 77 rustic ski huts and après ski bars, perfect for any excuse to stop for lunch or a Gluhwein. Ellmau is a pretty village that is popular with families and couples who are looking for a resort full of Austrian character. Shcheffau is close to Ellmau and is a traditional village with great views of the Wider Kaiser Mountains. Soll has a pedestrianized center and is the liveliest village, in the SkiWelt with plenty of bars and restaurant and is home to the famous Whiskymuhle nightclub. Westendorf is located on the other side of the mountain, and is popular with families as the nursery slopes are close to the center. Westendorf is also popular with skiers who like to rack up the miles as the can ski both the SkiWelt and Kitzbuhel with the Kitzbuheler Alpen All Star Pass.

Welcome to Austria’s largest ski area the SkiWelt, with 186 individual pistes making a massive 280km of slopes and serviced by 90 ski lifts. There are 9 villages in the SkiWelt, each with there own charm Brixen im Thale, Ellmau, Going, Hopfgarten, Itter, Kelchsau, Scheffau, Soll and Westendorf. The 9 resorts that make up the SkiWelt all have an enviable snow record, that are backed up by high-tech snow cannons for extra security.

Beginner skiing

Elmau and Westendorf are the best resorts for beginners as the nursery slopes are right by the town center.

Intermediate skiing

The SkiWelt ski area is ideal for intermediates thanks to its many wide blue and red runs, perfect for cruising around on. Westendorf is on the other side of the mountains enjoys 2 ski areas; the SkiWelt and the Kitzbuhel ski area with the Kitzbuheler Alpen All Star Pass.

Après Ski in the SkiWelt

Over the whole ski area, the SkiWelt has 77 rustic ski huts and après ski bars, however each of the 9 villages have their own charm and vibe. Soll is the liveliest village and is famous for the Whiskymuhle nightclub, but there are many other great bars. Other popular bars in Soll are the Après Ski Bar Hexenalm and Moonlight Bar. In Westendorf popular ski huts include the Freerider Schirbar.
