The Ski Jewel was formed in December 2012 by linking the Alpbachtal ski area to the Wildschonau ski area. This created 145km of slopes amongst some breath-taking views and created a link form Alpbach to great resorts such as Niederau & Oberau. Most of Alpbach’s skiing is on the forested area of the Wiedersberger Horn Mountain.
This resort is great for beginners and first time skiers; there are in fact three separate nursery areas at village level. If it is late season and the village snow is low in the village there are more nursery slopes at the top of the gondola.
There is plenty of intermediate skiing on offer with some fantastic long reds that run through the forest from the very top of the mountain right down to its base.
One popular long route for experts is the Gmahkopf that runs from the top of the gondola all the way to Inneralbach. There are also some great off piste opportunities through the trees in fresh snow.
There are 3 snow parks in Alpbach as well as a 90m half pipe to play on. Snowboarders will also find that there is a great amount of natural features to enjoy.
After he lifts have shut the town will liven up, with popular après bars soon becoming crowded such as the Boglerhof and Jakober.
