This pretty little snow sure Austrian village is the highest ski area around Innsbruck, and is very popular with many of the locals. There is some fantastic ski in ski out accommodation as well as some of the best off-piste runs in Austria.
Axamer Lizum is gradually been linked up with the Gotzens / Mutters ski region, which creates a much larger ski area with a more diverse terrain. It was also hosted the alpine skiing events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games. Although not the biggest ski area if conditions are right it has some of the best off piste in the Austrian Alps. It is a small resort but there is some great off-piste and is the highest resort around Innsbruck. It also hosted events in the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympic Games . With both rustic ski huts and modern mountain restaurants there really is something for everyone.
There is a small nursery area in Axams, complete with draglifts, however most beginner or first time skiers will head up to Axamer Lizum where the ski schools meet on nice wide sunny slopes.
This ski resort will suite intermediates with 40km (25miles) of mainly intermediate runs. Popular routes include the Gotzens and Axams through the trees. If you purchase the “Glacier Lift Pass” this will cover 8 resorts around Innsbruck including the Stubai glacier where it is possible to ski all year round so snow is guaranteed.
The men’s Olympic slalom run, is a black piste from Birgitzkopl and a must for any serious skier.
Snowboarders have some of the best off-piste in the Austrian Alps to explore, from the top of the Hoadl peak. There is also a large snow park to practice your freestyle ticks on.
Après ski in Axamer Lizum is set in one of 6 bars; the liveliest is Lizumstubn that has a great choice of beers and wines.
There are two nightclubs the Alte Mühle and the Disco Beiler that is open until 2am.
