The attractive and popular village of Ellmau is located at the base of the picturesque Wilder Kaiser mountain range and the Kitzbüheler Alps. Thanks to its proximity to Salzburg ski holidays here have a short transfer, and also has ski slopes that run into the village center.
Ellmau is part of the SkiWelt Area, Austria’s largest interconnected ski region, with 279km of diverse slopes and terrain it must be high on your ski holiday destination shortlist. Other ski resorts that are in this area include: Brixen im Thale, Going, Scheffau, Hopfgarten, Itter, Westendorf (that was recently linked in 2006), Kelchsau, and the legendary ski resort of Söll. In addition to the 279km of slopes, 225km of the resort are covered in snowmaking cannons so snow is guaranteed!

Ellmau is part of the SkiWelt, which is Austria’s largest linked ski area. Other popular resorts that are in this area include Scheffau, Westendorf and Söll. There is a skiing area of 279km of pistes to explore and it that is not enough for you if you buy the “Kitzbuhel Alpen Ski Pass” it is possible to access other great resorts such as Kitzbuhel.
In addition to the 279km ski area, there are 225km of the slopes covered by snow cannons, so whatever the weather snow is guaranteed. Also on the mountain there are over 70 mountain restaurants or ski huts on offer, each filled with their own warm hospitality and Tyrolean charm.
There are plenty of wide slopes to practice on as well as a good selection of nursery slopes close to the centre of town. At the top of the funicular there are some more nursery slopes.
In Ellmau there are some great and extensive blue runs that lie in between Ellmau and Soll. For run skiers and boarders there are over 20 linked circuits that run back to the town centre.
In the ski area there are 6 black runs, with one of the best going from the top of Hohe Salve that is above Soll down through the Leukenwald.
Ellmau and the SkiWelt is very snowboarder friendly and offers some interesting terrain. There are also 3 snowparks to have a play on.
As soon as the lifts close there are plenty of bars, cafes and ski huts to choose form. Popular choices include “The Mexican”, Husky’s Bar, Pub 66 and Heldenbar, some of these also play live music.
When the slopes have shut and you still what to ski Ellmau offers night time skiing on 13km of floodlit slopes.
