Finkenberg is a charming Tyrolean village located in the stunning Ziller valley. The village is located just at the entrance of Tuxertal and right next to Mayrhofen the largest town in the Zillertal ski area. Finkenberg has access to the Hintertux Glacier where it is possible to ski 365 days a year up to 3250m so there is guaranteed snow!
It is possible to ski the whole of the 671km of slopes in the massive Zillertal ski area from here. Or you can just focus on the Zillertal 3000, which includes Mayrhofen and Hippach, which has 245kms of pistes. There rest of the Zillertal ski area has to be reached by the Zillertalbahn (a train) or by local busses that are all free if you have ski gear, so don’t forget your skis!

Finkenberg is in the Zillertal ski area, which has a massive 671km of slopes however most people just concentrate on the Zillertal 3000 that includes its neighbour Mayrhofen. The Zillertal 3000 has 245km of pistes and is one of the most popular in Austria. Thanks to the Glacier at Hintertux there is snow 365 days a year so snow is guaranteed, and there is skiing up to an eye watering 3250m.
Throughout the whole area there are countless wide piste ideal for intermediate skiers. Notably up the Glacier Bus 3 take takes you right to the top at 3250m, here there great choices of runs, including the Tuxer, Fernerhaus and the Sommerberglam that runs a spectacular 12km into the valley.
Expert skier and experienced snowboarders will love the tracks below the Scheekar chair. Lets not forget about the legendary Harakiri, Austria’s steepest descent, but only recommended for excellent skiers.
Located close to the Sunjet quad chair is the amazing Burton Park. This snowpark is filled with kickers, rails and lets not forget the half pipe. This park is home to Austria’s most famous freestyle pro Tom Eberharter, so you might even see him out? There is also a beginners line in the Burton Park called the “Fun Park” with smaller jumps and rails to practice on.
The most popular après ski bar in Finkenberg is the Laterndl pub, which has live music, and goes on until late. There are many more apres ski bars in Mayrhofen which is just the next town along.
Other choices include the Finkennest that offers something different every day. Monday tequila night, happy hour on a Tuesday, however whatever day you go there will always be table dancing.
