Katschberg is one of the best resorts in Austria for a family ski holiday with young children. Much of the accommodation is ski in ski out and they have fantastic facilities for kids such as specially designed lifts for young children. The Hotel Cristallo is a particular favourite offering childcare services in house with the slopes right on its doorstep. The village is quintessentially Austrian and full of charm. They often have markets selling local goods and you will find waiters and waitresses wearing traditional Austrian Lederhosen. To add to the character of the village all of the architecture is has been done in a classic alpine style with buildings made from wood and stone.
The local slopes offer 70km of piste and all of the terrain is perfect for beginners and intermediates with blue and red runs making up almost 85% of the ski area. This makes for Katchberg being an ideal place to take your children for their first ski holidays. Upper intermediates and advanced skiers might find that the skiing on offer on the local slopes becomes rather tedious after a day for two but what a lot of people do not realise is that if you purchase the full area lift pass you can ski all of the other resorts within the Lungau area. Just a 10 minute journey from Katschberg gets you to St Martin im Lungau which gives you access to the Großeck - Speiereck – Mauterndorf ski area. In total the full area lift pass covers about 190km of piste.
The main hotel that we have on our books in Katschberg is the Hotel Cristallo. It is a firm favourite with families due to its proximity to the slopes and its family friendly facilities. Feel free to give us a call to discuss your holiday needs and to get your holiday booked – 02037780123.

Katschberg is incredably popular with families, especially during peak dates like half term, book early to avoid disapointment
Katschberg is possible the perfect place to learn to ski. With empty slopes and virtually no lift queues. On top of this it is fantastic for children. The whole resort is geared towards teaching children to ski in the best environment possible and they have a specific children's area with pistes and lifts that only children are aloud to ski.
Lower intermediates will love the skiing on offer in Katschberg as the local slopes are predominately made up of blue and red runs. With the local area lift pass you can ski over to St Margarethen which adds a nice variety to to the skiing. Upper intermediates might want to think about getting the full area lift pass to that you can head down the road towards St Martin im Lungau for even more skiing.
It is highly recommend for advanced skiers to purchase the full area lift pass as you will probably ski out all of the local slopes is a day and half, if that. There are some challenging slopes in Katschberg such as the long black down from Tschaneck but with just 60km of piste in the local area it is just not enough for any serious skiers. The full area pass gives you access to 190km of piste in the Lungau area.
Snowboarders who enjoy riding on piste at a leisurely pass will enjoy a holiday in Katschberg but if you are looking for adventurous and extensive terrain then you had best look elsewhere. However, St Margarethen which is the resort that is linked up to Katschberg does have a great snowpark with a half pipe and well maintained kickers on offer.
The apres ski scene is Katschberg is pretty low key, as you might expect from a resort that heavily markets itself towards family ski holidays. However, Katschberg is still in Austria and no Austrian ski resort is complete without at least one apres ski bar. Wilderer Alm is the place to head if you are after a few apres ski drinks and they offer home-made schnapps which always goes down very well. Things tend to kick off during standard apres ski hours from about 3.30pm on wards and they regularly have a Live band or a DJ on.
