The Espace San Bernardo is really a true gem of a ski area and if you haven’t been it really should be high up on your short list for your next ski holiday. The Espace San Bernardo ski area links up Italy and France and is a 150km playground for skiers. The two ski resorts within the Espace San Bernardo ski area are La Rosiere, France and La Thuile, Italy, these combined offer some of the finest skiing in the Alps, with some excellent tree-lined slopes.
Included in the 150km of piste there are over 70 runs with many blue, red and black to choose from, with plenty of fantastic off piste opportunities. Both La Rosiere and La Thuile are great for families and are in our top family resorts.
Ski holidays to either resort will allow you to experience a fantastic alpine charm with traditional buildings, stunning scenery and spectacular view of Mont Blanc from La Thuile. Both resorts have a few bars and some quality restaurants offering some great local cuisine. We have a wide selection of chalets in La Rosiere with most offering childcare. The skiing in Espace San Bernardo, benefits from the unique position from sharing a ski area across resorts in two different countries; La Rosiere in France and La Thuile in Italy, and no you wont need your passport! Both resorts combined have 150km of slopes and with most of the skiing over 2000m snow is ensured throughout the winter season.
Both La Rosiere and La Thuile have nursery slopes close to the main lifts and the town centre, the beginner slopes are in the sun and wide open, perfect for children learning to ski. It’s also worth mentioning that the ski schools are English speaking, and all have excellent reputations.
The Espace San Bernardo is perfectly suited for intermediates; the resort is filled with open blue runs and hugely enjoyable red routes, through the trees back into the villages. On the La Rosiere side most of the runs are south facing so why not try the Col de la Traversette, offering spectacular views across the valley to Les Arcs.
La Thuile offers the best black runs with the steepest route been 69 and 73 degrees at their steepest point. The Espace San Bernardo is one of the few areas in France to offer heli-skiing.
The Espace San Bernardo has some of the finest off-piste in the Alps. In La Thuile there are some breathtaking routes through the trees back into the resort. La Rosiere is famed for its wide untouched powder fields, which are surrounded by glaciers and outstanding scenery.
La Rosiere on the French side is the livelier than La Thuile over in Italy. Le Petite Danois, Moo bar, Fusion and Le Pub, are the most popular bars that are all open until 2 am. They all have live bands, DJs and have happy hours.
La Thuile is in Italy and offers drinks and food at some very reasonable prices, especially when compared to France. There are some amazing mountain restaurants serving local cuisine all offering good views of Mont Blanc.
