The skiing in Livigno is all high altitude as the lowest slopes are those that run don to the village at 1820m. The highest skiable point is just below 3000m and it is this height that gives Livigno such a good snow record. When skiing Livigno you have the course of the east or the west side of the village. On the west side you will find the challenging slopes of Mottolino whilst on the east you will find the links areas of Costaccia and Carosello.
The total amount of skiing in Livigno is about 115km which is more than enough for any beginner or intermediate skier but it is worth noting the lift lift pas also covers the ski resorts of Santa Caterina, Bormio and San Colombano (although a bus ride is required to reach all three). For those more adventurous skiers amongst you a 6 day lift pass will also give you a days skiing in the Swiss Engadin Region which includes about a dozen resorts, most famously St Moritz, but also Pontresina, Samedan, Silvaplana and Zuoz. Livigno also has one of Italy's best snow parks!
The beginner skiing in Livigno good not be more suited to the needs of novice skiers if it tried. Nearly half of the lifts that Livigno has are drag lift that run from the village and they run parallel to each other along the valley throughout the village (check out the Livigno piste map tab to see). As a result it means that no matter where you are staying in the village you will easily be able to access one of the beginner slopes. On top of this there are easy blue runs that run all the way down from the top of the mountain into the village which means that beginners skiing in Livigno for the first time will be able to experience the thrill of heading all the way to the top peak.
The intermediate skiing in Livigno is spread throughout the resort and on both side of the village. A good place for intermediate skiers to start their week would be on he eastern side of the resort where they can experience both the reds and blues of Costaccia before heading over to Carosello for some more challenging red runs. Towards the end of the you will want to check out the reds runs available on the western side of the valley and maybe even test yourself on the blacks runs down from Della Neve.
The advanced skiing in Livigno is focused around the slopes on the western side of the village and the area know as Mottolino. If you want to get straight into the swing of things and test yourself on some black runs then this is where to head. Advanced skiers who like freestyle skiing is also want to check out the two snow parks that Livgno has to offer. The park on the Mottolino side has been voted one of the best in Italy!
There is plenty of off piste skiing to be found in Livigno but the main area of interest on a powder day will be the slopes running down towards Trepalle. This is where those in the know will be heading if a fresh snow fall has been predicted.
Snowboarding in Livigno has become vary popular thanks to what has been voted as one of Italy's best snowboard parks. In total Livigno has two snow parks but it is the one on the western side that has gained all of the recent praise. The resort also has two snowcross courses which as also very popular with snowboarders.
